Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963, to an incredibly musical family from Newark New Jersey is the daughter of Gospel star Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. Also, she is the sister of the singer Dionne Warwick. Whitney's mother and her began to sing professionally together in the church of New Hope Baptist of Newark in the year Whitney was just fifteen years old. They performed the back vocals on Chaka Khan's track from 1978 Im Every Woman. She went on to provide back vocals to Jermaine Jackson, Lou Rawls and her own mother. The first Whitney Houston album was released in 1985. It would become one of the best-selling albums by an artist. Many hit songs, including the hit songs Saving All My Love For You How Can I Tell You If That You Love Me as well as The greatest Love of All were released on the album. They set the stage for her to beat the Beatles with seven consecutive US number ones. The album was sold to three million people in during its initial year, and over 25 million worldwide.
